A nice bright  copy in red cloth boards, with logo to centre of front board, in publisher’s grey, red and gold dust jacket, with some wear and chipping to edges, text block is stained at the top, as required for this edition.

This notable Modern Library Giant edition includes the summing up by Judge Woolsey allowing the controversial novel to be published in the USA &  a “Letter From Mr. Joyce to the Publisher.

Ulysses was first published in America by Random House after the legal ban was lifted in 1934. A subsidiary of ‘Modern Library,’ Random House enabled the founders to publish, “at random,” other books that interested them. It soon was a major publishing force in its own right, and the Modern Library would become an imprint of its own offspring.

The Modern Library billed itself as “The Modern Library of the World’s Best Books.’
