Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Illustrated by Millicent Sowerby. London: Chatto & Windus, nd. . Pp, 166 with catalogue of books published by Chatto to rear. Publisher's blue illustrated cloth, lettered gilt on spine and front cover with illustration. A good copy. Illustrated with 12 full-page colour plates by Millicent Sowerby, this is the first Alice book published legally without using Tenniel's illustrations. In 1907, copyright changes led to an immediate golden age of Alice Illustration as Sowerby was soon followed by Rackham, Tarrant, Hudson, Pogány, Laurencin, and many other superb interpretive artists. This copy is a later issue of the first edition, without the publication date to title-page.
