Yapp edges frayed, otherwise a fine copy. Murray’s debut play for the Abbey Theatre, it dramatizes a conflict over the inheritance of a family farm. It toured in America along with Synge’s ‘In the Shadow of the Glen’ where it stirred controversy among its Irish-American audiences more accustomed to romanticised treatments of Ireland in earlier melodramas such as those by Boucicault.
