Catalogue of the Exhibition of Works By Irish Painters. With descriptive and Biographical notes by A.G. Temple F.S.A. Director of the Art Gallery of the Corporation of London. George Briggs Esq. Chairman. [Art Gallery of the Corporation of London], 1904. Pp 106. Black and White illustrations of the works included throughout. Index of Artists plus Index of Owners. Specially bound copy, in two-toned cloth, brown & green, title lettered in gilt to upper cover, with device in gilt to centre. Inscribed by Hugh Lane on front free endpaper: 'To W. T.P. ? From Hugh Lane, Sept 2nd. 04' Body of text detached from covers, light damp staining to margins of covers, contents in good condition. Housed in solander box. The 1904 loan collection of pictures by Irish painters launched Lane’s career as a curator and advocate of modern Irish painting. The catalogue is a key reference work, detailing 465 paintings, many of them illustrated. Evidently this catalogue was a small number of specially bound copies for presentation, rare thus.
