This small, elegant volume brings together Chamber Music, Poems Penyeach, and the poem "Ecce Puer".  Joyce was initially ambivalent concerning Augustus John’s Portrait of him but when the drawings was reproduced in the Joyce Book he conceded : 'Praise from a purblind penny poet would be ridiculous but your drawing is clearly the one thing in the volume which is indissentable.  I wish I could see the lines better myself.'  [Slocum & Cahoon A44]
