John Devoy dedicated over 60 years of his life to the cause of Irish independence. He is one of the few people to have played a role in the rebellion of 1867, the 1916 Rising and the Irish War of Independence (1919 - 1921). The Devoy correspondence is a unique and almost daily picture of the Fenian movement from the inside for those sixty years, and contains many valuable documents never before made public. In the first volume ten years of John Devoy's life are covered, the second volume continues the story of his life until his death in September 1928. A full index, original illustrations, and many biographical notes with a running historical narrative accompany the text.
