M.J. Macmanus was the Literary Editor of The Irish Press, a newspaper controlled by Éamon de Valera and his family. The work was reprinted several times, later edition included additional matter covering the General Election of May 1944, as well as extracts from Churchill’s victory broadcast to the world on Sunday, May 13th, 1945, with reference to Ireland and de Valera’s reply three days later from Radio Eireann.
