The contents are chiefly the reprint of a series of papers by Michael Harkin (nom-de-plume ‘Maghtochair’) which appeared in the Londonderry Journal, on the history, traditions, folklore and antiquity of the district of Inishowen.

When it was first published in 1867, the ancient customs and traditions were dying in the area and the author was keen to rescue from oblivion, the legends & traditions which were fast disappearing.
