Letter-Book of the Earl of Clanricard 1643-47. Dublin: Irish Manuscripts Commission, 1983. Pages, 504. Large 8vo. Fine copy in d.j. Earl of Clanricard was a devout Catholic but also a confirmed royalist, one of the richest landowners in the kingdom, inclined to be English rather than Irish in his outlook. For historians Clanricard's career is especially significant because he left behind him a comprehensive collectioon of letters and papers relating to his activities during the Confederate period in Ireland. He transcribed copies of most of these in letter-books.
