Oscar Wilde. The Story of an Unhappy Friendship. London: Greening, 1905. Second edition. Pp 270, , with six portrait plates. Blue cloth boards, lettered in gilt. Light shelf-wear to covers, browning to endpapers, otherwise a very good copy.
A memoir of the close friendship between the author, the great-grandson of Wordsworth, and Oscar Wilde. Towards the end of Wilde's life they drifted apart - in Sherard's words 'we sometimes passed each other in silence, with only a wave of the hand like two wrecked ships that pass in the night.' The first of Sherard's several publications on Wilde, first published in a limited edition in 1902.
