The Green Fool. London: Michael Joseph, 1938. First Edition, First Issue. Pp, 350. Original green cloth, title lettered in silver within a lined boarder to head of sine, publisher's name and device to tail; fading to head & tail and to upper right corner of board. In the very scarce publisher's green dust jacket, title printed in black within a central white panel to upper cover and on spine. Head & tail of spine and top edge of jacket frayed with a little loss; contents in fine condition. A very well preserved copy of the rare first edition, first issue (with cancel page 300), that was taken out of publication due to a libel action against the publisher by St. John Gogarty who took offense to this sentences: "I mistook Gogarty's white-robed maid for his wife - or his mistress. I expected every poet to have a spare wife." Withdrawn copies were reissued with this cancel page inserted, omitting the objectionable text.
