Cover and dust jacket designed by Thomas Sturge Moore [1870 - 1944], English author, poet and wood engraver especially noted for his bookplate designs. He designed several bindings for Yeats, his most notable one for 'The Tower,' published 1928.
Published five years after 'The Tower' the title refers to the staircase in the Thoor Ballylee castle which Yeats had purchased and lived in with his family for some time.
