Patrick MacGill (1889-1963) was an Irish journalist, poet and novelist, known as The Navvy Poet because he had worked as a navvy on the railways in Scotland before he began his writing career.  

This was MacGill’s third book of verse, being a collection of his two previous works with the addition of newly composed poetry.
