Presentation copy, Inscribed by Lady Gregory on the front free endpaper:

‘To W. Harris, ‘You may remember that it was under your roof that I made the decision to write this book, two years ago and it is again at Derreen that I write your name in it and offer it to you .. Sept. 16 1921’.

With two ALS to Mr Harris on Coole Park notepaper laid-in. One dated August 30 (1919). 1 page, with postage envelope, addressed in Lady Gregory’s hand. ‘You were very kind to me & made everything so easy & pleasant, the sight of the good houses at the Abbey was also a delight – & I feel that we are on the upward road ..’ The other letter dated August ‘21, 3 pp (two sheets), accepting an offer of hospitality at his home in Sandycove, Dublin. Also included is a ‘Memorial Service’ programme in honour of Hugh Lane held at Old Church, Chelsea.  

Biography of her nephew Sir Hugh Percy Lane (1875-1915), the renowned art dealer and collector, who drowned while aboard the Lusitania, which was torpedoed off the coast of Cork on 7th May 1915. His mother, Frances Adelaide Lane (née Persse) was a sister of Lady Augusta Gregory.
