Beautifully illustrated with 24 full colour tipped in prints and numerous black and white drawings.

A book from the “golden age of illustration” which began  around 1900 when printing technology developed to the point that drawings and paintings could be reproduced with reasonable facility. The age lasted until the 1930’s, after which rising costs made such beautiful books unaffordable for much of the public.

Kay Nielsen (1886-1957) was a Danish illustrator known for his Art Nouveau style.

‘East of the Sun, West of the Moon’ was first collected and published in 1845 by Norwegian folklorists Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Engebretsen Moe, and later collected by Andrew Lang in his The Blue Fairy Book (1889).
