Illustrated with sixty full page colour plates by Edmund Dulac. A defining feature of this edition the colour plates are divided among the novels, with each typically receiving twelve to six illustrations depending on the length of the work.
Edmund Dulac (1882-1953) was one of the great illustrators of the “Golden Age” of book illustration. This set marked his first major commission, launching his illustrious career in 1905 with an earlier version of this same project .
Brontë biographer Nick Holland has described the Dulac-illustrated Brontë novels as “perhaps the most beautiful set of Brontë books of them all”
