De Profundis  is a confessional letter written during Wilde’s incarceration in Reading gaol addressed to Lord Alfred (Bosie) Douglas. It is a defence of Wilde’s opinions and conduct, and reads emotionally and lyrically when he is describing the depth of his feelings for his sometime friend.

Merlin Holland is Oscar Wilde’s grandson and has written extensively on his famous grandfather.
