Victor Sawdon Pritchett (1900–1997) was a distinguished British writer and critic, celebrated for his short stories, literary criticism, and travel writing. His introduction to this Collins edition (first printed in 1952) brings the perspective of a major twentieth-century man of letters to Austen’s novel.
