This copy has an inscribed gift note from Hoey to the Right Hon. David Moriarty, Bishop of Kerry, Signed and dated the same year of publication (pasted on to front free endpaper).

A distinguished Irish statesman and jurist, Plunket was a leading advocate for Catholic emancipation and parliamentary reform.

Called to the Irish Bar in 1787, he became a prominent Whig politician, serving as Solicitor-General (1803) and Attorney-General (1805) for Ireland. As Lord Chancellor of Ireland (1830–41), he played a key role in legal reforms.
