Canon O’Leary, known nationally as An t’Athair Peadar O’Laoghaire, was parish priest of Castlelyons from 1891-1920. He was a prominent worker for the revival of the Irish Language and wrote many books in Irish.
First published in 1915, it was the first work of its kind to be published in Modern Irish, and is a personal record of a period of great change in Ireland, extending from the pre-famine years of the 1840’s to the first decade of the 20th century.
