Sylvia Beach – published Ulysses in 1922. – this book is a unique record of an important chapter in literary history.
Sylvia Beach was an American-born bookseller and publisher who lived most of her life in Paris . Her book tells the story of the shop she founded at 12 rue de l’Odéon, which served as a meeting place, lending library, and informal post office for expatriate writers between the World Wars .
The memoir is particularly valued for its first hand account of Beach’s decision to publish James Joyce’s Ulysses in 1922 when no one else would, an act that secured her place in literary history.
