Anne Devlin was the most heroic figure of the ill-fated Insurrection of 1803. Although she was never convicted of any crime, Anne was imprisoned in Kilmainham for three years. She was kept in solitary confinement for most of that time and endured beatings, starvation and psychological torture. She told the story of her life to Reverend Brother Luke Cullen and died in poverty in 1851.
