Lady Morgan, born Sydney Owenson in 1776, established one of the most influential literary and social salons in Dublin, which she later transferred to London.

She created an eager and large readership for her novels, such as the very successful The Wild Irish Girl, and was the first writer to be granted a pension (£300 pre annum) for her services to the world of letters.
