At the time of his early death in 1981, Dónal Foley was one of Ireland’s most popular journalists, widely known for his weekly satirical column in the Irish Times, ‘Man Bites Dog.’ He was appointed deputy editor in 1977, the same year in which he published Three Villages, the latter part of which is given over to a chronicle of his emigrant years.
