Original red cloth, upper covers ruled in gilt with cameo stamped in gilt to Centre of boards, title in gilt to spine, tope edges in gilt. Lightly faded at spine with small repair to page 199 with cello tape, leaving a dark brown mark the length of the page front and back and some off-setting to pages 198 and 201. Otherwise a handsome set.
English illustrator and satirical artist John Tenniel (especially known for his work in Punch) illustrated the first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1872).
