Northanger Abbey was one of Jane Austen’s earliest manuscripts and the first of her novels to be completed for publication in 1803. Persuasion was her last, published six months after her death, at the end of 1817. Published together in a single volume after her death, the two books differ widely. Northanger Abbey is a spirited, Gothic parody, while Persuasion has increasingly been seen as a new direction for the Austen canon.
This illustrated edition was first published in 1897.
