First published in 1857 & rarely out of print since, the book is set in the 1830s and features the adventures of Tom, a country squire’s son, who is sent to board at Rugby School (a school where the author attended).
Edmund J Sullivan was one of twelve children of the Irish-born art teacher, Michael Sullivan. A very versatile artist, he lectured on Book Illustration and Lithography at Goldsmiths’ College School of Art.
