Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Illustrated by Arthur Rackham. With a Poem by Austin Dobson. London: Heinemann, 1933. Cheap Edition. Pp ix, 161. Rebound in half dark blue morocco over cloth boards, spine with raised bands, title lettered in gilt to second & fourth compartment with gilt embossed illustrations to others. A handsome gift copy.

Illustrated with thirteen plates in colour and several sketches throughout the text by   Arthur Rackham.

Rackham’s next undertaking after Peter Pan (1906) was the most controversial of his whole career. This was nothing less than a fresh illustration of Alice in Wonderland (1907), a work so completely identified with the drawings by John Tenniel that it seemed to many critics almost blasphemous for anyone to attempt to prepare alternatives.   (Derek Hudson: Arthur Rackham. His Life and Work)
