The first edition to feature the distinctive illustrations by American artist, Peter Newell.
Peter Newell (1862–1924) was an American artist, illustrator, and author known for his whimsical and humorous illustrations. His distinctive black-and-white illustrations for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s were more cartoonish and exaggerated compared to John Tenniel’s original iconic drawings. Newell’s Alice appears as a playful, modernised figure, with bold, expressive lines and dynamic compositions. His interpretations brought a fresh, American humour to the classic tale, though they were less widely recognised than Tenniel’s.
A very nice publication with the text framed within a decorative light green boarder.
