Benburb. Its Battlefields and History. With an Account of Blackwater-Foot and Coney Island. Dungannon: Tyrone Printing Co., 1924. Pp 41. Original sewen wrappers. A very good copy.

This booklet’s primary focus is on the Battle of Benburb (1646), a major victory for the Irish Confederate forces under Owen Roe O’Neill against a Scottish Covenanter army commanded by Robert Monro. The Dungannon and Blackwater region was a significant military corridor in the seventeenth century.

John J. Marshall appears to have been a local historian with an interest in the history of County Tyrone. He authored at least one other work: “Irish Tories, Rapparees and Robbers,” published in 1927.
