As a Fellow, Professor, President and historian of RCSI, Charles Cameron was steadfast in his connection and devotion to the College for over 53 years. He was a tireless campaigner for better hygiene, health and welfare for the city of Dublin and its people. His discoveries, research, publications and campaigning led to improved public health during a particularly difficult period in the history of the city.

Owing to his ceaseless efforts and flair for inspired insight, the death rate in Dublin between 1901 and 1911 was reduced by a quarter.
