The second volume, commencing in January 1849 and ending in October of the same year. Illustrated with twelve engraved plates & one vignette in the text. 

Containing much local information on the people along the west coast of Ireland during the Famine era ” We regret to say that the famine is not yet at an end in Ireland. Notwithstanding the relief administered from time to time by the benevolence of England, there are thousands of the Irish peasantry at this moment in a state of absolute destitution; and it will be difficult to calculate what will be the result of this third summer of starvation which, in the all-wise providence of God, has already commenced in that poverty-stricken land.” [pp73].

The Irish Society, was a Protestant missionary society which proselytized among Irish-speaking Roman Catholics. It was founded in 1818 in Dublin by members of the Church of Ireland and remained in existence until 1914.
