The Irish International Exhibition opened on 4th May 1907 on the site in Dublin which is now Herbert Park (Ballsbridge). The purpose of the instantly popular Exhibition was to highlight the Irish industrial endeavour. There were displays of motor cars, electric and gas lighting and machinery and a mock-up ‘Somali village’, which proved to be the exhibition’s most popular attraction. It is estimated that the Exhibition received over 2.75 million visitors. Despite this the Exhibition made a colossal loss of over £100,000 at the time.
