Secondary Education Branch. Regulations Regarding Curricula Certificates Examinations and Scholarships, with Programme for the Year 1926-27. Published by the Stationary Office. Pp 69. Green cloth boards, title lettered in gilt. A fine bright copy.

Containing a detailed description of the regulations for school curricula & examinations, along with the various scholarships and prizes available to students.

In 1924, the number of students in secondary schools was a mere 5 per cent of those enrolled in primary schools in
the State (free secondary school education was not introduced until 1967). The Intermediate and Leaving Certificate Examinations were introduced for the first time in 1925. The general pattern of post-primary school attendance had been established in the days of the British administration and was maintained during the first four decades following Independence in 1922. An interesting piece of social history.
