Keating’s Foras Feasa ar Éirinn is a foundational work of Irish history, written in the living Irish language of the 17th century rather than the archaic bardic dialect. The editor notes that modern Irish begins with Keating, and his model was followed by good writers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
