Pp viii, 333, [xxix]. Rebacked in half polished calf over original marbled boards. Raised bands, title label lettered in gilt to second compartment. A nice bright copy.
Only Part I was published; the work appears to have been intended as the first of multiple volumes, examining the penal laws and the condition of Catholics in Ireland following the Treaty of Limerick.
Matthew O’Conor (1773–1844) was an Irish barrister, historian, and landowner from Mount Druid House, Ballinagare, County Roscommon. His 1813 History of the Irish Catholics became a key text in its day, drawing extensively on manuscripts collected by his grandfather, distinguished antiquarian, Charles O’Conor.
