Adapted from his stage play first performed in 1963, Alfie tells the story of a young womanising man who leads a self-centered life, purely for his own enjoyment, until events force him to question his uncaring behaviour, his loneliness and his priorities.

A good friend of the author’s, Irish artist Gerrard Dillon (1916-1971) designed the dust jacket for Naughton’s semi-autobiographical novel ‘One Small Boy’ published in 1957.
