Although written in 1963, “All Strange Away” did not see general publication until 1979, appearing after the other short works or “residua” which have characterized his non-dramatic work during the last twenty years. It can be considered an earlier version of “Imagination Dead Imagine”, but is different in tone, variety of description and emotional content. Its compression and poetic quality is, as with all Mr Beckett’s work since the forties, and extraordinary literary phenomenon.”
