Winifred Paula Wulff was born in Broughty Ferry, a suburb of Dundee, Scotland. The poems are dedicated to R.A.S. Macalister, who was her lecturer in UCD where she obtained her PhD in Celtic Studies in 1931.

She was a member of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland.
