Mexican artist Alfonso Monreal (born 1953) studied architecture at Guanajuato University before moving to Paris where he worked at Atelier 17 with renowned printmaker William Hayter. Monreal moved to Ireland in 1982. Since this time he has lectured at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, and the University of Ulster, Belfast. Monreal has received awards in both Mexico and Ireland and is an elected member of Aosdána. His work is included in the collections of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Ulster Museum, Belfast.
