Sanas Chormaic, Irish for ‘Cormac’s Narrative’ an early Irish glossary containing etymologies and explanations of over 1,400 Irish words. It is the he earliest Irish dictionary & regarded as the earliest linguistic dictionary in any of the non-classical languages of Europe.

“This translation now printed was made by John O’Donovan, many years before his death, and appears never to have been revised by him. This being so I have thought it my duty to endeavour to print his version in such form as it would have assumed had he lived to publish it.” [Whitley Stokes. Calcutta, Christmas, 1868].

The ‘Sanas Chormaic’ was first published in London by Whitley Stokes in 1862 entitled ‘Three Irish Glossaries.’
