Cruiskeen Lawn by Myles Na gCopaleen. Extracts of Contributions to The Irish Times. Dublin: Cahill, [1943]. First Edition. Pp, 80. Text illustrations. Wrappers printed in black & red. Patchy mottling to endpapers, wear to lower end of spine, contents pages in bright & clean condition.

First printing of this delicate publication featuring humorous extracts from Brian O’Nolan’s satirical column in The Irish Times written originally in Irish, later in English. The first issues did not have a title page, instead a description of the booklet by G.J.C. Tynan O’Mahony of ‘The Irish Times’ was pasted to the front free endpaper.

Until the last years of his life, Cruiskeen Lawn was O’Nolan’s main or only literary output. It appeared daily throughout the war and for a year or so afterwards. Then it was reduced to three days a week, a rate more-or-less maintained, apart from a few longer absences through ill health, until his death in 1966.
