Belfast poet Derek Mahon was widely regarded as one of the most talented and innovative Irish poets of the late 20th century. He was a member of the Irish artists’ association Aosdána and won numerous awards including the Lannan Literary Award (1990), the Irish Times/Aer Lingus Poetry Prize (1992), the David Cohen Award (2007), and the Irish Times Poetry Now Award. He died at home in Kinsale, County Cork, on 2 October 2020.
