Alan Wade’s bibliography does not record this binding, which varies significantly from the usual blue-green cloth with Althea Gyles’s design. Wade notes that copies published during and after the war, when materials where scarce, continued using Gyles’s design, but blocked in blind, rather than gold.

The present copy discards Gyles’s design and employs a more expensive binding material, suggesting that perhaps a number of copies were bound for a deluxe or gift issue.
