Samuel Ferguson published many volumes of verse, with much of his poems based on Gaelic legends. His collected poems, ‘Lays of the Western Gael,’ ppeared in 1865, and ‘Congal,’ an epic poem in five books, in 1872. He is regarded as a forerunner of William Butler Yeats and the other poets of the Irish Literary Revival.
