Margaret Gregory was the wife of Lady Gregory’s son Robert. The publisher states in his introductory note: ‘it is possible that the idea of a small illustrated volume, made up of those sections (from The Book of Saints and Wonders – Dun Emer Press, 1906) containing the stories about the three great wonder-workers of Ireland, came from the publishing house of Maunsel, who occasionally produced such books for the gift market. But following Lady Gregory’s departure from their list of authors, the idea was probably forgotten. But Lady Gregory kept ever scrap of material concerning her work, so that now, for the first time, Margaret Gregory’s illustrations are all published, with the stories to which they relate, 75 years after the book was first planned.’ A charming publication.
