The second in the series of Dicken’s Christmas Books ‘The Chimes’ appeared a year after A Christmas Carol, in 1844 and would revisit the same themes in a more strident way. The faults and redemption of its protagonist, Trotty, are perhaps more meaningful and considered than those of Scrooge.
