Complete run of these two journals, profusely illustrated with sketches and engravings. The Irish Penny Journal was one of the more substantial Irish penny magazines of the nineteenth century. Populist in its approach, covering a diverse range of topics and was among the first to bring new developments in Irish culture to a wide public audience, catering to the revival in interest in the Gaelic-speaking past and its literature.
