The Picture of Dorian Gray. Paris: Carrington, 1908. First Edition Thus. Pp, 312, uncut. Folio. Publisher’s half vellum paper boards, title in gilt to spine with water lilly in gold to center of upper cover. Light browning to margins of boards, but overall a fine bright copy.
The first illustrated edition featuring seven wood engravings by Eugene Date, from the drawings of Paul Thiriat.
This copy contains a note, tipped in at half title, stating that the publication was to be issued in 1908 (the date on the title page) but did not appear until 1910, as the artist fell ill.
Originally published in Lippincott’s Magazine in July 1890, ‘Dorian Gray’ appeared in book form the following year with six new chapters, many alterations and much additional matter.
