This edition was issued in 1948 from sheets of the second printing (1924) in a new cloth binding and with the addition of a dated stamped presentation from the author.

The first edition of 1907 although well received was not illustrated. The second edition (1924) containing six pen & ink style drawings by Joseph Patrick Campbell, who also designed the attractive title page, added greatly to its appeal.

Mary Ann Hutton, born as Mary Ann Drummond in Manchester, England in 1862, was a remarkable Irish language scholar and writer & a central figure in the Gaelic revival. Her interest in the Irish language blossomed during her stay in Rosmuc, County Galway, where she immersed herself to improve her fluency & supported the establishment of St. Enda’s School by lending financial aid to Patrick Pearse.

This translation of The Táin is regarded as her main contribution to Irish scholarship.
